Sourced from the famous Saint Joseph and Grand Cras subzones of the appellation, about 500 meters from his Morgon vines, Mary Lou is a fruit-forward, easy-drinking Beaujolais.
Guy Breton "Marylou" Beaujolais Villages 2021
"This one GW says ‘comes out of the MB playbook’, hence we have a very fresh feeling, lighter, loose knit vin de soif kinda style.
Sour cherry, a little hazy red apple juice, some alpine herbs, fennel. Thirst-quenching kind of style, really just a few pay grades up from rosé, but with a sheath of finer tannin and just that bit more depth. It’s really lovely, really delicious, so skollable, very lively. Out of the box for Beaujolais classicists but the pay off is a wine of immense and immediate appeal. Could drink this all day." 92 Points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
"Breton’s Marylou exemplifies all that is right with Beaujolais. Easy on the eyes (just look at that vibrant color!), easy on the head (alcohol and sulfur circumscribed), easy enough on the wallet (this is Guy Breton, living legend, after all!), and full steam ahead on the joy of it all." Chris Santini, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant
Also known as “Petit Max” by his friends, Guy Breton is certainly a name in everyone’s ear ever since Kermit Lynch dubbed him, together with Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet and Jean Foillard, as Beaujolais’ famous “Gang of Four” in the ‘80s. Cultivating the 4 ha of his family’s farm organically, Breton lets natural ferments work their magic and help the terroir express itself through minimal intervention.
