A wine that shows lush red fruits and gentle earthiness, coating the mouth with its lovely subtle tannin structure.
Jean-Paul et Charly Thévenet Grain & Granit Régnié 2021
"Red fruits, spice, some perfume and gentle earthiness. It’s fine-boned with subtle stony tannin, a little bit juicy, but also nicely contained, and comes over almost like a Pinot Noir, and the finish is long with spiced cherry and strawberry in the aftertaste. Lovely wine." 93 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
"After an internship with the Lapierres just up the street, a teenaged Charly Thévenet convinced his father, Jean Paul, to abandon herbicides and start plowing his vineyards. More than twenty years later, Charly continues to carry the family domaine forward, honing farming and winemaking to produce cru Beaujolais that is purer and more delicious with each passing vintage. His Régnié has always had an intensity and concentration from ninety-year-old vines planted directly into granite bedrock, but in 2021 it is also lithe, juicy, and dangerously thirst-quenching.A change to all-tank aging, lower sulfur, plus a Beaujolais vintage for the ages has resulted in one of his finest releases to date." Anthony Lynch, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant
Jean-Paul Thévenet is another name in Beaujolais' famous 'Gang of Four' not to be missed. Nestled in the small village of Villié-Morgon, Jean-Paul with his son Charly, a former apprentice of his father and Marcel Lapierre and now a rising star in his own right, have combined to release the wines under the Jean-Paul et Charly Thévenet label. Farming organically and biodynamically at the family's 5 ha home vineyard in Morgon, as well as a parcel of 80-year-old vines in the up-and-coming cru of Régnié.
