Winery Details

Since its first release in 1988, the name Parker Coonawarra has represented outstanding quality, longevity and elegance from the region. Based in the very southern end of the Terra Rossa strip, the wines have always embodied a fine, long-lived, classic style. The Hesketh family became the custodians of the vision for Parker in 2013, and have continued with these ideals. The wines offer an exceptional insight into why the Coonawarra region became famous for powerful yet delicious cabernet. This includes a Langton's classification for the flagship First Growth bottling.

Parker Coonawarra Estate First Growth 2019
The spread of flavour here is elite. It's not the density, which is significant but not overbearing, but rather it's the way the flavours expand as they roll through the mouth, like rice in water, the finish vastly more voluminous than the start. It shows textbook characters of blackcurrant, bay leaf and tobacco, and while there are oak influences in the form of cedar, chocolate and dark, sweet coffee, they are folded into the fruit with the deftest of touch. And then there are the tannins. These have a sweetness of their own, and an authority, and yet they are a masterclass in integration. Stand back. This wine has its sights set firmly on the future.

Medium deep crimson. Classically beautifu lwine withintense black currant pastille leafy aroma with vanilla, toasty marzipan notes. Well concentrated and smoothly textured with ample ripe soft cassis, dark plum, hint panforte fruits, fine grained / cedar tannins, attractive mid palate viscosity, toasty vanilla notes and well-integrated acidity before finishing claret firm. From an exceptional vineyard planted on the famous Coonawarra Terra Rossa soil, ‘First Growth’ is only made inthe finest years and clearly this was one of them. There’s aromas of blackberry, big fleshy Kalamata olives warmed in the oven with springs of rosemary, blackcurrant leaf tea, cinnamon sticks and Dutch salted liquorice. I was delayed intasting it for what seemed ages because I just wanted to bask in the scent. After that smoulderingly sexy aroma profile, the initial sensation on the palate is surprisinglybright and juicy – blueberry and blackcurrant, sliced strawberries, red delicious apple skin. There’s also hints ofeucalypt and cocoa powder with savoury, tea-like tannins,
and a vibrant, yellow plum acidity. I want to tell you to holdoff on drinking this and you should, but you should also taste it now because this is such a charming expression ofthe best of Australian Cabernet. Decant it to release morejuicy cherries and sweet vanilla spice as it opens up.

Harvested 16th April, gets 80% new French oak.
Cherry dipped in chocolate, a slight roast red capsicum and blonde tobacco top note, in with some flowers, a little mint and sweet biscuit oak. It’s all cherry and red fruit, fine chalk dust tannin offers grip, acidity is balanced, and there’s a general succulence to the wine that’s very appealing. Finish has tannin, and maybe a little drying oak, but gee it’s a good Cabernet all up.
