Located in the heart of Western Australia’s renowned Margaret River wine region, the Pierro locality, owned and managed by Dr Mike Peterkin, has a viticultural pedigree second to none. Besides making award-winning Chardonnay of distinctive character, Mike also produced the first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend in Australia. The Pierro reds are now among the very best in the region.

Press Review

    Pierro VR Chardonnay 2019
I am very fond of Pierro wines, both as a visit and of what is in the glass. Indeed, one of my first ever cellar door experiences in Margaret River was to Pierro, memorable for Mike Peterkin wandering out and for the honest feel of the place. Even when I was an up-and-comer at Best Cellars, Pierro would send me samples to look at (I think they probably still go there as they don’t seem to come now!), generous to a fault. Anyways, Pierro still remains top of my list of ‘what’s the best chardonnays in Australia’ questioning.

Richness and generosity, freshness and chalky-flinty minerality – all even, all in synch, all good. Scents of honey toast, Parisian almonds, ripe apple, nashi pear and cinnamon. The palate similarly set, plush in a way but for that building pucker of talc-like chew and yet it finishes with amplitude and very long down the trail. A little cinnamon and clove spice lingers, a touch of almond nuttiness too. There’s a lot of chardonnay here, and it’s done well in that way. Delicious and moreish expression.

    Pierro VR Chardonnay 2019
A style that is reminiscent of a soliloquy, delivered confidently, as this stands alone, stylistically unconcerned with all others around it. Pristine fruit bathed in vanillin, cedary oak, ginger spice and clotted cream. The palate has depth, somewhat expansive yet it follows a linear path of acidity. It’s complex, detailed and stamped Pierro.
