Winery Details

Three winemakers, four labels across two regions of Spain, producing modern and contemporary organic wines.

A Co-Op of sorts, Azul Y Garanza is a collective project from winemakers Dani Nogué Sánchez, and siblings Maria and Fernando Barrena Belzunegui. Restoring forgotten or neglected landscapes, they are regenerating vineyards with certified organic practices and encouraging biodiversity through the planting of native aromatic shrubs, and fruit trees. The winemaking uses only natural ferments, lots of skin-contact, amphoras, and low, if any SO2 additions at bottling. Azul Y Garanza is the ‘home’ project with vineyards based where the winery is in Bardenas Reales, Navarra. Sourcing fruit from old (over 100 y/o), previously abandoned vines spread over a number of plots the wines are based on Garnacha and Garnacha Blanca, with smaller production of Graciano and other varietals. Entre Vinyes are wines from Penedes in Catalunya, this is Maria’s project restoring an old family vineyard in the Foix Natural Park. With an average vine age of 60 y/o they grow indigenous varietals Xarel.lo Blanco & Vermell, and Parellada. DIT Cellars source fruit from Sierra de LLaberia Natural Park in Montsant, where Dani first fell in love with vineyards and wines

Press Review

Azul y Garanza DIT Cellars Selenita Nit 2018
70% Garnaxta, 30% Samsó (Cinsaut), off 70 year old vines, fermented in concrete tank before elevage for 18 months in used French oak. DO of Montsant.
Prune, dark chocolate, spice. Bold and fleshy wine, a little baked in flavour profile, but has excellent sooty tannin, a slight bitterness and breathy warmth, and really dense with a robust finish. Feels like a genuine wine, but you have to like them ripe and bold.
