GOLD MEDAL | Tasmainian Wine Show 2023

"Grapefruit, white flowers, cinnamon, ginger and clove spiced oak, a little struck match and oyster shell too. It’s tight and tangy, all citrus and spice, with a little creamy flavour built in, but by and large its driven by zesty acidity and spicy oak, with some marzipan richness tempering it. No doubt it has intensity and a lively line of acidity, though that gingery oak carries on the finish a little too much, along with some attractive briny flavours.  But for all that, it is a very good wine. Oak, yes, but great intensity and regal carriage. And despite my reticence to encourage such styles, you can’t help but admire it. It will settle and grow with a few more years in the cellar too." 94+ Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

"Sourced from a single Derwent Valley site planted to I10V1, I10V5 and Penfolds clones. Pale straw with aromas of white peach and citrus fruits cut with hints of crushed stone, soft spice, marzipan, almond blossom and clotted cream. The fruit is stretched taut across a minerally frame and presents with plenty of detail and precision with a long, lemony, vivid finish." 94 Points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion

About this Producer

Derwent Estate, planted on the historic Mt Nassau property just north of Hobart, has been in the same family since 1913. With three generations involved in the family business today, this genuine cool climate site on north-facing, Calcareous soil slopes has gained a reputation for consistent, outstanding quality fruit, most notably Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. They approach the vineyard with a gentle management philosophy; and a purpose-built winery completed in 2013 made with straw bales cleverly retains the ideal natural ground temperature for the production and maturation of the wines.
