Winery Details

The next Generation of the Lloyd family (Coriole) planting their flag in the Vale. A new project from brothers Duncan and Peter Lloyd, Dune wines sees them step out from the shadow of Coriole wines. Sourcing fruit from a single vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of Mclaren Vale. Organic in conversion, this sandy vineyard has been completely re-imagined since being purchased by the brothers in 2009. Planting and grafting over southern Mediterranean varietals has seen them create a unique range of blends alongside some classic and so2 free shiraz.

Press Review

    Dune Paliorema Shiraz 2021
A no So2 wine here, and while Dune say they are not against sulphur, they like the difference it makes.
Liquorice, blue and black fruits, a little aniseed and dried herb. It’s fleshy and full of stony/graphite tannin, really rolls through the mouth with a thick feel, so much chew and satisfaction in the texture, a little saline too, with black olive and meaty savoury stuff, and some dark cherry/liquorice to close. Feels almost like a Sagrantino, or something of a more Italianate bent. I like it. Hearty and good to drink. That tannin profile is quite something.

    Dune Paliorema Shiraz 2021
Blewitt Springs material. Abstemious yields. A dollop of sangiovese suffuses perk and a welcome edge to the tannins. Fermented wild on skins for several weeks. Pulpy. Fullish, but limpid and alive in the glass. The tannins, long limbed and succulent, as if chewing the most delicious grape until it disintegrates. Australians were once terrified of real tannins. Now we have wines like this to show us the way. Iodine, licorice allsorts, blue fruits, mint, soaring florals, polished suede...and the 3rd glass, please.
