Jane Eyre Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2023
"From a single vineyard planted in the late ’90s; native-yeast ferment with 20% whole bunches; matured in French oak (10% new) for 10 months. The whole bunch adds a crackling component here, an autumnal rustle, which is suffused with fruit as the wine is buoyed with air, redcurrant and wild red cherry unfurling. Carraway, rhubarb, clove and a dried orange peel/Campari note add complexity. There’s lovely poise and clarity here, while tannins are pleasingly meaningful. It’s a very nice release." 96 Points, Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion
Jane Eyre has become a reputable name in Burgundy, reaching great heights in 2021 after being awarded the prestigious Négociant of the Year award by La Revue du Vin de France. Each year she returns to her home state of Victoria, as well as Tasmania, to produce a line of terroir-driven Pinot Noirs in limited quantities from exceptional sites. There is a cohesive style across both the French and Australian Pinot Noirs, a thread of clarity and expression of vintage and place, that has built a strong following.
