Bright, vibrant Cru Beaujolais one of the region’s best known biodynamic practitioners
Jean-Paul et Charly Thévenet Morgon Tradition 2023
"Cherry, ripe raspberry, and a spicy and distinctly smoky sort of mescal thing here, which I like, along with some dried rose. It’s medium-bodied, quite firm and grainy in tannin, something of a roast red capsicum character in with cherry pip and blueberries, bright and kind of ‘minerally’ acidity, with a dry finish of good length. albeit a little dusty and peppery. I do like the energy here. It’s one of those wines where it’s kind of hard to get your head around, though I do like it. Almost like a Rhône Valley wine, it seems to me." 92 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
Jean-Paul Thévenet is another name in Beaujolais' famous 'Gang of Four' not to be missed. Nestled in the small village of Villié-Morgon, Jean-Paul with his son Charly, a former apprentice of his father and Marcel Lapierre and now a rising star in his own right, have combined to release the wines under the Jean-Paul et Charly Thévenet label. Farming organically and biodynamically at the family's 5 ha home vineyard in Morgon, as well as a parcel of 80-year-old vines in the up-and-coming cru of Régnié.
