Jean-Paul et Charly Thévenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes 2024
"Cherry, strawberry, quite some spice and perfume of rosehip tea. It’s light to medium-bodied, a crispness to it, strawberry, raspberry and dried cranberry, quite lively and sappy, and this vintage perhaps recalls an older school of Beaujolais, where crunch and freshness is the signature, rather than some of the more recent bolder vintages where tannin and lushness is the theme. The finish is lively, red fruited and a little nutty and creamy. It’s a very good wine, and in particular, it smells lovely." 94 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
Jean-Paul Thévenet is another name in Beaujolais' famous 'Gang of Four' not to be missed. Nestled in the small village of Villié-Morgon, Jean-Paul with his son Charly, a former apprentice of his father and Marcel Lapierre and now a rising star in his own right, have combined to release the wines under the Jean-Paul et Charly Thévenet label. Farming organically and biodynamically at the family's 5 ha home vineyard in Morgon, as well as a parcel of 80-year-old vines in the up-and-coming cru of Régnié.
