Reviews & Accolades

Luigi Vico Barolo Prapò DOCG 2020
"Ruby with garnet edges. It is intense and fresh to smell, fragrant strawberry and redcurrant fruit, pure and clean, with a floral headiness and subtle allspice oak influences, very alluring. Flavours are also pristine, with vibrant fruit sweetness, taut and tangy acidity, well-judged wood spice adding complexity and velvety tannins on a texturally fine palate. All capped off with a long and flowing finale. Seductive now, it will also age gracefully, gaining complexity." 96 Points, Steve Blandford, The Real Review

"This vineyard sits below Cerretta, which is one of my favourite crus. Strawberry, marzipan, mint and aniseed, quite some dried flower perfume too, along with sweet spices, nutmeg and pimento in particular. It’s medium-bodied, quite svelte and low key in fine silty and silky tannin, a strawberry succulence with plenty of dried spice, some hazelnut and porcini mushroom savoury things, a little blood orange/Campari tang to acidity, closing with excellent length and a lick of ferrous tannin. This is one of the better wines from 2020 I’ve tasted. All just so. I reckon some of that poached strawberry sweetness will blow off with with some bottle age, and then it will be something quite beautiful." 95 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

About this Producer

Luigi Vico’s wines come from his family heirloom vineyard in Serralunga. With his ancestors having farmed the site, providing fruit for other estates since the early 1900s, Luigi decided to return to making wines under the Vico name. Assisted by famed neighbour, Davide Rosso, these wines are classic, yet precise and approachable. They are both new and entirely timeless. These bottlings have been a joy to discover.
