    "Shiraz from this historically significant vineyard, planted in deep red volcanic loam by Maurice O'Shea in 1921, over-delivers on character and appeal. The nose has mind-blowing intensity with ripe mulberry and licorice aromas accented by nutty oak and baked cherry pie. There is superb mid-palate density with dark fruit flavours and a plush, supple mouthfeel. The flow of the finish is hypnotic in the way it intensifies instead of diminishes, and although laden with fruit, it still manages to finish with freshness.     "Kasia tasted these wines with Adrian Sparks and myself yesterday, and I’m re-tasting them today, just to see how they are coming along with a little more air.

    GW: Lots of mixed berries, creamy and ripe, some spice, a bit ferrous and savoury. Medium-bodied, quite earthy, red and black fruit, creamy chew to tannin, plenty of berry fruit and a finish of good length. Chalk dust finish. It’s fleshed out and become more succulent and generous after being open for a day, and I can see the makings are very good here. 94+ points.

    KS: Dark and stormy, spicy. Dark fruit and a touch of blue fruit and dried blood, cherry blossom and liquorice top note, some sage. It’s salty with graphite-like finish, long and lasting, feels bold and a bit creamy with oak but I like the rock salt finish and a smoky touch. About this Producer

    The famed estate of Mount Pleasant has a well-storied past, founded by the visionary of Australian wine, Maurice O’Shea. It includes plantings of ancestral vines of 1880, as well as Australia’s oldest mother vine Pinot Noir planted in 1921 by O’Shea himself. It is the home of some of the first fine wines of Australia, and with just five winemakers over its 100-year history, it has maintained its status as a benchmark of the Hunter classics, Shiraz and Semillon.
