The famed estate of Mount Pleasant has a well-storied past, founded by the visionary of Australian wine, Maurice O’Shea. It includes plantings of ancestral vines of 1880, as well as Australia’s oldest mother vine Pinot Noir planted in 1921 by O’Shea himself. It is the home of some of the first fine wines of Australia, and with just five winemakers over its 100-year history, it has maintained its status as a benchmark of the Hunter classics, Shiraz and Semillon.

Mount Pleasant Estate Grown Semillon 2023
Been having discussions lately about Semillon in restaurants by the glass. Does it work? Why not? Seems Sem is a misunderstood wine. Or boring? I find beauty in it.
Aromatic fruit. Fruit skin. Melon skin, lemon skin. It’s expressive and very likeable straight away, with white peach, lemon iced tea, fresh cucumber and mint stirred in. In general, it’s pure, milky-soft with a balancing phenolic pithy grip. It’s lively, refreshing and just solid good.
