Pierro Chardonnay 2024
"From one of Margaret River’s great chardonnay producers, this is yet another brilliant example of the style that has made Pierro so admired. You wouldn’t guess it came from a warm year—it’s delicate and fine, with a pristine brightness. The nose shows light grapefruit, citrus, a touch of butterscotch, and a subtle mealy note in the background. The palate has real zing, with lively, pristine acidity driving through to a sustained finish. A chalky, minerally edge adds to the linear feel and precision. Another outstanding Pierro chardonnay." 98 Points, Ray Jordan, WA Wine Review 2026
"Pierro of the Peterkin clan. On opening, I hovered around a bit of a ‘damn, this is good, but hasn’t hit the heights’ and then I got distracted by a phone call, and some other work related matters, and perhaps some fairy dust blew in through the shimmer of billowy curtains in my breezy open window, and the wine in bottle, and glass, found the heights, indeed. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Decant.
Sumptuous chardonnay of chiseled edges, briny minerality, judicious nougat and sandalwood oak seasoning, the undercurrent of concentrated, just ripe nectarine, a squelchy of green pineapple and some slickness from toffee apple going on. Also, just a suggestion of white mushroom, a pleasing kinda savoury note through the palate. Density, persistence, almost palate staining in a way, with a freshness, just so, balancing out the generosity. Not the most turbo-charged release, perhaps an epoch of more restraint within the Pierro oeuvre. Class act, is the byline." 96 Points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
"Light yellow hue with a honeyed, buttery croissant bouquet that shows chardonnay generosity, including malolactic character. The palate is rich and full, rounded and ample, showing the full gamut of Burgundian chardonnay characters. Very smart, but it looks almost old-fashioned beside most mod Oz chardies." 95 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Located in the heart of Western Australia’s renowned Margaret River wine region, the Pierro estate, owned and managed by Dr. Mike Peterkin, has a viticultural pedigree second to none. Besides making award-winning Chardonnay of distinctive character, Mike also produced the first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend in Australia. The Pierro reds are now among the very best in the region.
