Seresin Sauvignon Blanc 2024
‘This is one of the region’s most sophisticated, subtle and satisfying Sauvignons Blancs. It’s also one of the most important, given its widespread international distribution and certified BioGro status. The wine (which includes about 10 per cent Sémillon) is estate-grown in the Raupo Creek Vineyard, and mostly fermented in tanks with use of indigenous yeasts, but part of the blend is fermented and lees-aged in seasoned French oak barriques. Bright, light lemon/green, with a hint of straw, the 2024 vintage (*****) is mouthfilling, vigorous and savoury, with vibrant, ripe, tropical fruit flavours, showing excellent complexity, crisp acidity and a dry, sustained finish. Already delicious, but showing obvious potential for cellaring, it should be at its best 2027+.’ 5 Stars,
‘A stylish offering, the engaging bouquet reveals grapefruit, crunchy apple, lemongrass, and oatmeal characters. The palate is concentrated and brilliantly focused, wonderfully framed by a saline texture and racy acidity, leading to an impressively long, mouthwatering finish. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2032.’ 94 Points, Sam Kim
Fruit is from the biodynamic vineyard Raupo Creek, with a small addition of semillon, too. The wine undergoes wild yeast, lees ageing and maturation in French oak barriques. Macerated pineapple, yellow guava and charred barbecue lemons. There is chamomile and beeswax, a slinky, lanolin texture and some bitter almond on the finish. A complex and detailed wine with stony and quartz minerals. Finishes very taut and refreshing. 94 Points, Halliday Wine Company
Cinematographer Michael Seresin’s desire to create high quality wine in the most natural way possible led to the rise of Seresin Estate in the early 1990s – a wine estate that has ever since followed the principles of biodynamic and organic farming and winemaking. Allowing the wines a little extra time, not only adds savouriness, mouth-watering textures and flavours, but also shows the unique sense of place the wines come from.
