Sons of Eden Freya Riesling 12pk 2023
Like the stern but beautiful Norse goddess this wine is named after, it is formidable: bone dry, stoic and confident. Built around an austere line of sharp citrus, it also has good mineral grip and a pleasing lick of talc at the finish. There’s a concentration of flavours without forcing any element, amplifying the attributes of a superior vintage. Effortless balance is achieved in this powerful wine.

Sons of Eden Freya Riesling 2023
Sourced from three vineyards – Petney, Roesler and Cranes Range – vines 25, 60+, 45+ years of age, respectively. You get a lot of old vine value in Riesling for a very modest price. I’m liking the 2023 vintage for SA Riesling, plenty of zip and purity is my feeling.

A floral kind of bath salts perfume, lemon and lime, a little lemongrass and spice. It’s juicy, but has plenty of flinty crunch, delivers flavour yet keeps itself trim and pure, with fine powdery grip and a tonic with a twist of lemon finish of fine length. Very good, and better still, it presents an each way bet; lovely to drink now, or later.
